About St Chad's Church

St Chad’s Church serves the Church of England parish of Far Headingley, Leeds, in West Yorkshire. It occupies a site behind Otley Road, with a cricket ground and the Grade II designated parish war memorial between the building and the street. The church remains in parish use and holds Grade II* listed status.

Completed in 1868, the Gothic Revival church was planned by Edmund Beckett Denison with W. H. Crossland. The Beckett family, associated with Kirkstall Grange, provided the land and £10,000 towards the work. Its spire reaches 186 feet. During alterations in 1909–11, a rectangular chancel took the place of the former octagonal apse, and lateral additions accommodated a Lady chapel and an organ room. Harrison & Harrison of Durham supplied the instrument for this space. It received electric operation in 1988 and further refurbishment during the 2011 interior reordering. M. E. Aldrich Rope created the 1922 Creation window over the altar.
