About St. Agnes' Church, Burmantofts
St. Agnes’ Church, Burmantofts is a Church of England parish church in Leeds, West Yorkshire. It remains active and belongs to the Diocese and Archdeaconry of Leeds. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.
Designed by the Leeds architects Kelly & Birchall, the church was constructed in 1886–87 and later modified by Lord Grimthorpe. Its Gothic Revival design uses regularly coursed stone, contrasting ashlar details and a sharply sloping slate roof terminating in gables. Inside, octagonal columns divide the nave into four bays. A reredos dating from 1891 combines coloured tiles with locally produced Burmantofts faience. Beneath the western window is a terracotta memorial to James Holroyd, who founded the Burmantofts Faience Works. His employees commissioned it following his death in 1890.
