About The Parish Church of St. Mary and St. Peter
The Parish Church of St. Mary and St. Peter is a Church of England parish church on Church Road in Winford, Bristol, Somerset. It forms part of the Winford with Felton Common benefice in the Bath and Wells diocese. The building is recognised at Grade II* for its historic and architectural importance.
Established during the 1400s, the church underwent substantial rebuilding in 1796. Its western tower, erected around 1437, was retained. This tower rises through four sections and is strengthened by recessed buttresses, with a many-sided staircase turret, carved waterspouts and decorated corner spires. It contains eight bells: six older bells were tuned again in 2006, when two more were installed. The interior includes a baptismal font, timber preaching desk, heraldic stained glass and arms painted on canvas. Listed memorials stand outside, among them the Shire Monument, made in approximately 1764.
