About Church of All Saints

The Church of All Saints stands on Publow Lane in Publow, Somerset, near Bristol. It belongs to the Church of England and is protected at Grade I, reflecting its exceptional architectural and historic importance.

Originating in the fourteenth century, the church comprises a chancel, nave, two aisles, two porches and a tower at the western end. The tower was added around 1467 and rises through four levels, with gargoyles, stepped supports and pinnacles set at an angle near the bells. A bell displays the heraldic emblem of Sir Francis Popham. Architectural details include trefoil-shaped clerestory openings and a restored three-light chancel window in the early Perpendicular tradition. The early seventeenth-century oak pulpit features carved arches above and floral roundels beneath. Arthur Blomfield designed substantial works undertaken during the 1890s, costing £1,400. The surviving parish register begins in 1569.
