About St Margaret's Church
St Margaret’s Church is an active Church of England parish church in Owthorpe, Nottinghamshire, within the wider Nottingham area. Dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, it has Grade II* listed status. The church occupies a secluded farmland setting near the former manor site and is reached by a public footpath and timber gate.
Parts of the building originate in the 12th century, though repeated alterations shaped its present form. A substantial rebuilding took place around 1650, with the north wall retained from an earlier, larger structure. Inside are a 15th-century octagonal font with a battlemented design and an oak three-level pulpit and lectern beneath a Jacobean canopy, still used today. A wooden division between nave and chancel is believed to have come from Owthorpe Hall. Richard Roe of Epperstone made the clock installed in 1680. Restorations in 1888 and 1905 exposed the roof timbers and renewed the window stonework and glazing.
