About St Lawrence
St Lawrence is an active Church of England parish church serving Gotham in the Nottingham area of Nottinghamshire. It has Grade I listed status and remains the largest church in a local group of five Anglican churches situated around the A453. The interior was reorganised in 2010 to provide an adaptable setting for worship and other events held during the year.
The church originated in the thirteenth century, with work dating from around 1201. Restoration took place in 1789, followed by further repairs in 1869. A tower clock made by Reuben Bosworth was fitted in 1848 at a cost of £70. Its two faces were positioned towards the village street and the route linking Nottingham with Leake. Inside are numerous memorials, including examples commemorating local people from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
