About Saint John of Beverley

Saint John of Beverley is a Church of England parish church in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Dedicated to John of Beverley, it remains part of the Cranmer Group of parishes and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.

The church has medieval origins in the fourteenth century, although extensive work in 1846, 1866–67 and 1870 replaced much of the earlier fabric. Its plan includes an Early English-style nave with two aisles and porches, a chancel reconstructed in 1846, and a central tower and spire renewed in 1870. Surviving features include a relocated Romanesque arch, a double piscina, two medieval knightly effigies and a chapel commemorating Archbishop Thomas Cranmer. The font was made in 1662, while stained glass by Edward Burne-Jones shows Jesus with Saints Peter and John. Eight bells hang in the church, including five cast in Nottingham by Henry Oldfield during 1590 and 1618.
