The church is protected as a Grade I listed building and, when illuminated after dark, is visible from across the Welland Valley.

Built in ironstone from around 1250, the church is principally a product of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, with restoration carried out during the nineteenth century. Notable details include carved lions and several historic memorials. In the chancel are monuments to Charles Norwich, who died in 1605, and Thomas Farmer, who died in 1764.
