About Parish Church of St George
The Parish Church of St George is a Church of England parish church on Church Lane in Barton in Fabis, within Nottinghamshire and the Nottingham area. This medieval place of worship remains a parish church and is protected at Grade I, reflecting its exceptional historic and architectural importance.
Dating from around 1350, the church underwent restoration in 1855 under Nottingham architect Thomas Chambers Hine. Further work from 1931 to 1934 repaired the nave roof and parapet, with Charles Marriott Oldrid Scott as architect and Thomas Long as builder. In the chancel is an alabaster monument from 1616 depicting William and Tabitha Sacheverell lying at rest. The west tower houses six bells. A two-manual pipe organ, made by Alexander Young in 1893 for Wincham Methodist Church, was moved here in 1965.
