About Church of St Mary
The Church of St Mary is an active Church of England parish church in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Recognised for its historic and architectural importance, the church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Its earliest surviving section is the fourteenth-century tower. Much of the remaining structure was reconstructed in 1854 to designs by E. J. Willson, following a commission from Guilm Malger Staunton, and further restoration took place in 1936. Memorials commemorate members of the Loudham, Staunton, Charlton and Brough families, with dates ranging from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century. The church has five bells, including a tenor cast by Henry Oldfield in 1604. Its organ was originally made by Brindley & Foster in 1896 for a private house in Lenton, transferred to the church in 1929, and restored and repositioned in 2009.
