About St Lawrence Church
St Lawrence Church is an Anglican parish church on the northern side of Church Street in Northampton, Northamptonshire. It is part of the Church of England and is protected as a Grade II* listed building. The parish belongs to a united benefice with Watford, West Haddon and Winwick, while continuing to use its own church building.
Most of the present structure dates from the medieval period, although no church or priest was recorded locally in the Domesday Book. George Gilbert Scott restored the building in 1862, followed by further work under William Bassett-Smith between 1883 and 1887. Its layout includes a nave and chancel, aisles to the north and south, a southern porch and a tower at the western end. Parish records survive from 1558, with the older volumes held by Northamptonshire Record Office.
