About All Saints Church
All Saints Church is a former Anglican place of worship at Holdenby, near Northampton in Northamptonshire. Now redundant, it belongs to the Church of England and is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The building is protected at Grade II*.
Although a rector served here by 1220, the surviving structure was chiefly erected around 1330–40 for Richard Holdenby, the manor’s lord. Built from dressed lias stone, it comprises an aisled nave, chancel and three-stage western tower. The tower was heightened in the 1400s, while the chancel was reconstructed by Sir Henry Dryden in 1843–44. George Gilbert Scott directed extensive work in 1867–68, including steeply pitched roofs, renewed windows and glass, replacement doors and a southern porch. Interior highlights include medieval choir seating from Lincoln Cathedral, Elizabethan painted biblical panels, remnants of fourteenth-century glass, a memorial to William Holdenby and his wife, and an organ dating from about 1890.
