About Parish of St. Nicholas Dunnington
Parish of St. Nicholas Dunnington is a Church of England parish church on Church Street in Dunnington, York, North Yorkshire. It remains in parish use and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Parts of the church survive from the 11th century, while its two-bay nave and the tower’s lower stage belong to the 12th century. Limestone, sandstone and millstone grit are used throughout the building. Restorations took place in 1717 and from 1738 to 1740, followed by substantial work between 1839 and 1841 and further rebuilding by C. Hodgson Fowler in 1877. Helen Whittaker designed the east window installed in 2009. A medieval cross base and part of its shaft remain in the churchyard.
