About Church of St Nicholas
The Church of St Nicholas is a Church of England parish church in Stillington, in the York area of North Yorkshire. It remains the village’s parish church and has held Grade II* listed status since 1960.
Dating partly from the 15th century, the church retains its medieval chancel and vestry on the north side. Most of the building was reconstructed in 1840, incorporating some earlier fabric. Built in stone and roofed with Welsh slate, it comprises a central nave with aisles, a southern porch, chancel and western tower. The two-stage tower features a clock on its south face, paired-light bell openings and a battlemented parapet. A five-light Perpendicular east window includes a small fragment of medieval glass, while the interior contains box pews installed during the 19th century.
