About Church of All Saints

The Church of All Saints is a Church of England parish church in York, North Yorkshire. It remains an active place of worship and has held Grade II* listed status since 1953, reflecting its particular historic and architectural significance.

Dating largely from the early 1100s, the church retains its original nave and chancel. A south porch followed later, while several windows were modified during the 17th century. C. Hodgson Fowler oversaw restoration in 1904, reconstructing the arch into the chancel, introducing a vestry and bellcote, and installing a west window. Built in limestone with some reused older masonry, the structure has roofing of stone slabs, slate and tiles. Norman doorways survive at the west and south entrances, both with rounded arches and carved capitals. Interior features include a pair of piscinae, along with timber pews and altar rails from the 1600s. A small shingled spire and weather vane rise above the western gable.
