About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England parish church in York, North Yorkshire, serving the parish of Brandsby-cum-Stearsby. It remains an active place of worship and has held Grade II* listed status since 1960.
A church existed in Brandsby by the time of the Domesday survey. Its medieval successor was removed during the 1760s, and the present church was erected elsewhere between 1767 and 1770. Frances Cholmeley of Brandsby Hall commissioned Thomas Atkinson to design it. Built in sandstone beneath a hipped roof of stone slates, it has a three-bay nave and chancel, with a southern porch and vestry. A central cupola is crowned by a stone dome, ball finial and weather vane. Other notable details include round-headed windows, a Venetian-style east window and western stained glass by Charles Eamer Kempe. Temple Moore restored the building in 1905 and designed its oak pulpit and lectern. H. Rutherford added the baptistry, porch and vestry in 1913.
