About Christ Church
Christ Church is a Church of England parish church on Stockton Lane in Heworth, York, North Yorkshire. It serves its own ecclesiastical parish and also provides space for community activities, including dancing and meetings. Local organisations using the building have included the York Minster Scout Group.
The church began as a daughter congregation of Holy Trinity Church, Heworth. Its purpose-built home, designed by A. Michael Mennim, came into use during March 1964 and has been recognised as an attractive example of modern church architecture. Mennim was responsible for several churches around York. In 1998, Christ Church became independent from Holy Trinity through the creation of a separate parish.
