About Westborough Methodist Church
Westborough Methodist Church is a historic Methodist place of worship in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It has held Grade II listed status since 1973, recognising its architectural and historical significance.
Construction took place from 1860 to 1862 for the Wesleyan Methodists after their Queen Street premises became too crowded. William Baldwin Stewart designed the new church, which cost £7,700. Grey stone from Whitby forms most of the exterior, while red brick was used for the rounded wall at the back. The frontage has a four-column Corinthian portico, pediment and two square towers. Wide steps rise to three arched entrances, and the side elevations are arranged across five bays and two levels. Small stepped pinnacles provide further detail. The original interior included an ornate pulpit arranged in two tiers.
