About Pickering United Reformed (Congregational) Church
Pickering United Reformed (Congregational) Church is a former place of worship in Pickering, North Yorkshire. It has held Grade II listed status since 1974. The congregation closed the building after repairs became unaffordable, following a period from 2019 when it was also used by local Methodists during work on their own premises.
The congregation began in 1788, when worshippers separated from Pickering’s Anglican church. A chapel was erected on Hungate in 1793, extended in 1814 and given a new façade in 1867. Its white-brick frontage has stone detailing, an arched entrance, lancet windows and a gable with a round window. Red brick and stone are used at the rear, where a columned porch and arched openings with Gothic glazing can be seen.
