About Marton Mission Room
Marton Mission Room is a Church of England place of worship in Marton, near Kirkbymoorside in North Yorkshire. The Grade II listed building holds non-denominational services and accommodates a range of community activities. It was refurbished in 2023.
The building began as a village school in 1849 and was authorised for Anglican services four years later. After the school ceased operating in 1969, it became a mission room. Constructed mainly from limestone, it has a red-brick addition and slate roofing, with its gable facing the road. Steps and railings approach the pointed-arched entrance. Architectural details include a three-light window with cusped heads, a war memorial panel and a small bellcote above the gable. Two square-headed windows, each divided into three lights, are set into the side elevation.
