About St Saviour
St Saviour is the Church of England parish church serving Harome in North Yorkshire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building and now shares a parish with churches in Kirkdale, Beadlam, Nunnington and Pockley.
Work began in May 1861 after an earlier building on the site had been demolished, and the church was completed in August 1862 with support from the Feversham Estate. Charles Barry, Jr designed it, and William Barton of Helmsley served as contractor. The walls use hammer-finished stone quarried on the Feversham estate at Bilsdale, with dressed ashlar detailing. Notable features include glass by Hardman, particularly the 1862 east window depicting the Annunciation, Ascension and Baptism of Christ. The church also contains a pipe organ made by Henry Jones and Sons and a Millennium Cross created by a local craftsperson.
