About St. Mary

St. Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church on Brooklands in Filey, North Yorkshire. It remains a place of worship, with a Sunday service at 11:00 am. The building has held Grade II listed status since 2015.

Built in 1906 for a mission led by Eugene Roulin, the church was designed by architect Andrew Prentice. A presbytery followed in 1910, the south transept dates from 1961, and a parish hall was built beside the north elevation in 2002. Red Ruabon brick, pale rendered sections and buff roof tiles define the exterior. Its Italianate campanile includes symbolic panels, an open section for the bell and a pyramidal cap crowned by a pineapple finial. Other details include arched nave windows with concrete tracery, decorative brickwork at the east end and a mosaic medallion.
