About All Saints Church
All Saints Church is a Church of England church in East Ayton, North Yorkshire. It is recognised as a Grade II* listed building, reflecting its architectural and historic importance.
Its origins date to 1321, when John de Wykeham founded a chapel dedicated to Saint Helen. After the chapel became ruinous, its surviving tower was retained. William Butterfield designed the present sandstone church, which was constructed from 1853 to 1855 with slate-covered roofs. He later repaired the medieval tower, crowned it with a spire and adapted it as the entrance gateway. The church includes a clerestoried nave, aisles, chancel, porch, vestry and organ loft. Butterfield also created the font, pulpit and altar candlesticks. William Wailes supplied the stained glass in the east window, while Robert Thompson designed several oak furnishings in 1937, including the choir seating and altar rails.
