About Barlow Church

Barlow Church is a former parish church in Camblesforth, North Yorkshire. It closed for worship in 2012 and has since been converted for residential use. The building was added to the statutory list at Grade II in 1998.

A chapel serving the village and linked to St Wilfrid’s Church in Brayton was documented in 1649, although it seems to have fallen out of use after the Restoration. The present church was erected later in the 17th century, with alterations and restoration undertaken in 1774 and during the 19th century. Built in brick, it has three bays and a roof covered with pantiles. A modest timber bellcote rises above the southern gable, capped in lead and finished with a decorative weather vane. Before conversion, the interior contained Victorian pews, an altar and lectern from the same period, and a brass war memorial dating from around 1920.
