About St Michael and All Angels Church, Barton Turf

St Michael and All Angels Church, Barton Turf is an active Church of England parish church near Norwich in Norfolk. Set among trees about one kilometre south-west of Barton Turf village, it is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Built in 1401, the church was constructed in the Perpendicular Gothic style and has a tower at its western end. Its outstanding feature is a late medieval rood screen with twelve painted panels, probably dating from 1440 to 1450 and showing Flemish influence. They portray Saints Apollonia, Zita and Barbara alongside the nine orders of angels, although two figures were damaged during the Civil War. Paintings from around 1490 in the south nave represent Henry VI, Saint Edmund, Edward the Confessor and Saint Olaf. The church also contains a five-stop, single-manual pipe organ made by T. C. Bates in 1835.
