About Old All Saints Church, Great Steeping
Old All Saints Church, Great Steeping is a former Anglican place of worship in Lincolnshire, about three miles south-east of Spilsby. Set amid marshland and historic field patterns, it has been redundant since 1973 and is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is designated Grade II*.
Built in 1748 on the location of a medieval predecessor, the church was restored in 1908. Its Georgian design uses brick, limestone detailing and a greenstone rubble base beneath a tiled roof. The nave and chancel share a single roof, with a timber-clad bellcote and pyramidal cap at the western end. Details include round-headed windows, a sundial on the south wall and a west doorway framed by moulded stonework. Above the smaller east window, the shape of the earlier medieval chancel gable remains visible.
