About Church of St. Mary
The Church of St. Mary is an active Church of England parish church in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire. Standing where Church Road meets Church Lane, it has served as the town’s parish church for centuries. The building has been Grade II listed since 1966.
The church originated in the early 14th century, after Sir Roger de Montalt provided its site and funded the nave arcade. Its octagonal piers and moulded arches survive from this period. The nave was reconstructed in 1714 and again during a major rebuilding led by G. R. A. Mack of Louth in 1976. Mixed rubble, red brick and slate form the principal exterior materials, while the short tower combines a stone base with brick above. Inside are a panelled font dating from around 1400, turned altar rails from 1714, medieval Fitzwilliam memorial brasses, and a tomb with an Easter sepulchre believed to hold Thomas Fitzwilliam.
