About St Mary's Church
St Mary's Church is a Church of England parish church serving Holme-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, within the Hunstanton area. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it remains the parish church and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
A church was recorded here in 1188, though no details of that structure survive. Around the beginning of the 15th century, Henry of Nottingham rebuilt it in the Perpendicular style. His tall four-stage tower, constructed from dressed and knapped flint with stone detailing, remains alongside the later-rebuilt chancel. The nave and aisles were removed after becoming ruinous, with a new three-bay nave completed in 1778 using salvaged materials. Further chancel work followed during the 1880s. Notable fittings include a medieval piscina, a 1607 alabaster memorial, Victorian stained glass illustrating Faith, Hope and Charity, and five bells dating from the 17th to 19th centuries.
