About St Helen's Church, Brant Broughton
St Helen’s Church, Brant Broughton is a Church of England place of worship serving Brant Broughton and Stragglethorpe in Lincolnshire. This medieval church is protected at Grade I, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural importance.
Although associated with an earlier foundation date, surviving sections are thought to date from around 1290, while much of the present structure belongs to the later 14th century. Canon Frederick Heathcote Sutton and architect George Frederick Bodley oversaw extensive restoration from 1874 to 1876, including replacement of the chancel rebuilt in 1812. Bodley later designed the reredos, installed in 1887. The 51-metre spire was shortened in 1897. Notable furnishings include iron gates, railings and candle fittings made by village blacksmith F. Coldron, alongside a Wordsworth and Maskell organ fitted in 1876. Other features include medieval roof bosses depicting Green Men, Anglo-Saxon interlace stonework, a damaged Trinity carving and a late 15th-century German Ascension painting.
