About St Mary's Church, Eastwell
St Mary’s Church, Eastwell is the ruin of a former Church of England parish church within Eastwell Park, near Ashford in Kent. It is protected as both a scheduled monument and a Grade II listed building. The Friends of Friendless Churches has owned and cared for the site since 1980.
The nave roof fell in 1951, destroying the arcade, and most of the surviving structure was removed five years later. The principal remains are a fifteenth-century tower and part of the south aisle, built from flint and plaster with stone corner blocks, alongside a nineteenth-century mortuary chapel of chalk with a tiled roof. The tower has staged buttresses, a battlemented top, an altered consecration cross and an eighteenth-century pair of bell openings. A memorial in the former chancel commemorates Richard of Eastwell, traditionally said to have been a son of Richard III.
