About All Souls Church, Hastings
All Souls Church, Hastings is a former Anglican place of worship in Clive Vale, Hastings, East Sussex. It served the suburb until its closure in 2007 and was formally made redundant in March 2008. The building is protected at Grade II* in recognition of its particular architectural and historic significance, although demolition was under consideration in 2025 because of extensive deterioration and the cost of repairs.
Elizabeth Mason funded the church as a memorial to her husband. Arthur Blomfield designed it, with the foundation stone laid in 1889, construction beginning the following year and consecration taking place in 1891. Brick is used extensively on both the exterior and inside, creating a substantial presence in the Victorian streetscape and a lofty, imposing interior. Notable details include stained glass by Heaton, Butler and Bayne and an ornate mosaic reredos, installed beneath the east window in 1897.
