About All Saints Radwell
All Saints Radwell is an active Church of England parish church at Radwell, near Baldock in Hertfordshire. It is part of the Diocese of St Albans and has held Grade II* protection since 1968.
Christian worship may have taken place on the site from the early 1200s, though nothing remains of the likely wooden predecessor. The compact present building is chiefly medieval, probably originating around the middle of the 14th century, with Perpendicular Gothic design and masonry of flint and clunch. An eastern window and an arch suggesting plans for a western tower were introduced around the beginning of the 16th century. Restoration of the nave took place in 1875, followed by work on the chancel in 1882, alongside construction of the vestry and porch. Features include an early font, communion rails from the 1600s, two small bells and several brasses. The chancel also contains Mary Plomer’s unusual seated memorial, dated 1605.
