Saint Barnabas, on Church Road in Southampton, Hampshire, is Swanmore’s Church of England parish church. It belongs to the Diocese of Portsmouth and Bishop’s Waltham deanery, and holds Grade II listed status. Concerts are among the uses of the building. Its burial ground has reached capacity, but a section remains available for placing cremated ashes.
Benjamin Ferrey designed the church in a Neo-Norman manner, and it opened in 1844 under the Diocese of Winchester. Changes made during 1863 enlarged both the sanctuary and vestry. Thirteen years later, a tower was erected and new windows fitted. The parish moved into the newly formed Diocese of Portsmouth in 1927. A programme of renovation in 2011 provided a modern boiler and replaced the tiling over the tower.
