About St. Luke's Parish Church and Community Centre

St. Luke's Parish Church and Community Centre stands on The Avenue in Kew, Richmond, and continues to serve as a Church of England parish church. It shares a united benefice with St Philip and All Saints, known as the Barn Church, and belongs to the local ecumenical group Churches Together in Kew. Kew Community Trust uses much of the property for community activities.

Opened in 1889 as Kew expanded following improved rail connections, the church replaced a temporary metal building in Sandycombe Road. George Goldie’s firm, Goldie, Child and Goldie, designed the substantial Victorian building in a Gothic Revival manner. Sandstone laid in uneven courses forms its fabric, while the nave and chancel rise to the same level. Although the plans showed a spire, it was never added. Conversion work undertaken in 1984–85 and 1989 created secular facilities and confined worship to the former chancel and aisles. An 1880 Walker organ, rebuilt and restored, arrived in 1999.
