About All Saints
All Saints is a Church of England parish church on High Street in Lindfield, Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Still serving the parish today, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building and retains a range of historic fabric and monuments.
The present church was constructed chiefly in the early 1300s in the Early English style, although a Saxon charter from 765 records land granted for a minster that may have occupied the site. Its walls use local Sussex sandstone and stone from Ardingly, while the roof is covered with Horsham stone slabs. The three-stage western tower has trefoil, lancet and circular windows, and carries a timber-shingled spire. After serious decline from the late 1500s onwards, the building underwent a comprehensive Victorian restoration, supported substantially by the Reverend Francis Hill Sewell. Surviving features include 18th-century memorials in the north and south chapels. More recent work replaced Victorian seating and introduced a stone floor with underfloor heating.
