St. Mary & Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church is situated on Cranbourne Gardens in Temple Fortune, north London. The church belongs to the Coptic Orthodox tradition and holds its Sunday service at 9:00 AM. Its present home was formerly the Anglican church of Saint Barnabas.
The site began in the 1890s as a mission connected with St Mary’s Church in Hendon and later came under the Diocese of London’s home mission. It became a separate chapelry in 1923. John Samuel Alder designed the building erected in 1915. Between 1932 and 1934, Ernest Charles Shearman enlarged the nave and added the chancel and Lady Chapel. Romilly Craze designed a new nave in 1962. The Anglican congregation departed in August 1994, after which its former parish territory became part of St Alban’s in Golders Green.
