About All Saints, Camden Town
All Saints, Camden Town is a Greek Orthodox cathedral at the junction of Camden Street and Pratt Street in London. Originally established for Anglican worship, the church has served the Greek Orthodox community since 1948 and became a cathedral in 1991. It remains well attended and is protected as a Grade I listed building.
Constructed from 1822 to 1824, the church was designed by William and Henry Inwood. Its broad rectangular form is built of yellow brick, with Portland stone used at both ends. An apse to the east is balanced by a curved portico to the west, behind which rises a slender circular tower encircled by columns and modelled on an ancient Athenian monument. Greek archaeological fragments informed the Ionic detailing. Inside, a level ceiling spans the space, while Ionic columns carry galleries along three sides. Several renovations have taken place, including conservation work begun in 2009 under English Heritage supervision.
