About Holy Trinity Woolwich
Holy Trinity Woolwich was a Church of England place of worship in Woolwich, London. It occupied a site where Beresford Street, Beresford Square and Ropeyard Rails met. The church is no longer standing, having ceased to operate in 1960 and subsequently been demolished.
Built in 1833, it began as a privately owned chapel. It later served St Mary Magdalene Woolwich as an auxiliary church, following designs by John Douglas Hopkins. Holy Trinity became the centre of a separate parish in 1881, but this arrangement ended in 1953 when the parish was reunited with St Mary Magdalene. An Ionic entrance portico was taken down in 1930–31 to provide additional space for people waiting for trams. The remaining structure survived until its closure, when its parish was again incorporated into St Mary Magdalene.
