The Guild Church of Saint Margaret Pattens is a Church of England church on Eastcheap in the City of London, close to the Monument. Dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antioch, it has served as a guild church since 1954 rather than as a parish church. Its weekday congregation is drawn largely from nearby office workers. The church has been Grade I listed since 1950.
A church was recorded here in 1067 and was probably timber-built. A later stone building was demolished after falling into poor condition, replaced in 1538, and then lost in the Great Fire of 1666. Christopher Wren designed the present church, completed during the 1680s. Its 61-metre spire is his third tallest and was created in a medieval style. Inside, the rectangular space contains rare 17th-century canopied seats made for churchwardens, as well as a punishment box carved with a devil’s head. The building escaped serious damage during the Second World War.
