About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is an active Church of England parish church in Blackheath, London. Standing beside the common, it is now part of the Diocese of Southwark and has held Grade II listed status since 1954.
Local residents sought a church of their own in 1854, and the Earl of Dartmouth provided a site and laid the foundation stone in October 1857. Benjamin Ferrey designed the Kentish ragstone building, which was consecrated by the Bishop of London on 1 November 1858, although work continued until 1867. Its south-west corner is marked by a spire. Arthur Blomfield later designed vestries, added in 1890, and a porch completed in 1899. Inside, a screen unveiled in 1920 remembers local people killed during the First World War. The organ was built by Hill & Son in 1859 and subsequently enlarged by the same firm.
