About Hull Minster
Hull Minster is an active Church of England parish church in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. Known as Holy Trinity until its rededication as a minster in May 2017, it now has Grade I protection. It is regarded as the English parish church with the greatest floor space.
The earliest surviving sections are the transepts, built between roughly 1300 and 1320. Work continued with the choir later in the fourteenth century, followed by the nave around 1380 to 1420 and the tower around 1490 to 1520. The transepts are particularly admired for their medieval use of brick. Henry Francis Lockwood led alterations in the 1840s, including the removal of stucco and internal galleries. Sir George Gilbert Scott supervised another extensive restoration from 1861 until 1878. The tower contains a ring of 15 bells, an additional bell used for tolling, and a carillon comprising 25 bells.
