About St Saviour's
St Saviour’s is an active Anglican parish church in Saltley, Birmingham, in the West Midlands. It belongs to the Church of England and is protected as a Grade II listed building.
The foundation ceremony took place on 24 October 1848, with Lord Lyttelton laying the stone. Richard Charles Hussey designed the church, which cost £6,000. Funding included a £300 grant for a Commissioners’ church, a £500 donation from Joseph Wright and support from Charles Adderley, later 1st Baron Norton. James Prince Lee, Bishop of Manchester, consecrated the building on 28 July 1850 while the Bishop of Worcester was absent. A tower was constructed in 1871. The church also housed an organ made by Halmshaw.
