About St Peter's Church, Hall Green
St Peter’s Church, Hall Green is an active Anglican parish serving this part of Birmingham in the West Midlands. The church is recognised as a Grade II listed building and continues in use within the Church of England.
Its origins date to 1923, when Colonel Jervaise donated land and a modest timber chapel opened under the dedication of St Cadoc. It became St Peter’s in 1954, but fire destroyed the building in April 1959. Worship moved to temporary accommodation before the foundation stone of a replacement was laid in July 1962; the new church opened in 1964. The distinctive octagonal structure is covered by a broad concrete dome, with the nave rising to 35 feet at its centre. Its tower reaches 102 feet to the cross. Tristan Ruhlmann designed the stained glass, including twelve windows influenced by prayer rugs, a Nativity scene in the Lady Chapel and a large east window depicting Christ’s instruction to Peter to care for his flock.
