About St Paul's Church
St Paul’s Church is a Church of England place of worship in St Paul’s Square, within Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. This Grade I listed church became a separate parish in 1841, formed from part of the parish attached to St Martin in the Bull Ring.
Roger Eykyn of Wolverhampton designed the rectangular building, whose construction began in 1777 on land donated from Charles Colmore’s Newhall estate. It was consecrated two years later and served prominent local manufacturers and merchants, including Matthew Boulton and James Watt. Francis Goodwin designed the upper tower and spire, completed in 1823. Repairs following wartime bombing took place from 1949 to 1951, with extensive roof renewal, and a further restoration ran from 1985 until 1994. Notable features include Francis Eginton’s 1791 east window depicting Paul’s conversion, an organ containing some early James Bishop pipework, and a ring of ten bells installed in 2005.
