About St Margaret's Church, Ward End

St Margaret's Church, Ward End stands in the Ward End area of Birmingham, West Midlands. Formerly an Anglican parish church, it ceased holding services in 2005, and its congregation became part of Christ Church, Ward End. The building is protected at Grade II.

An earlier chapel was founded on the site in 1517 through the support of John Bond, serving the church at Aston. Following a public appeal begun in 1833, the present structure was completed and opened in 1834. Formal dedication by Worcester’s bishop followed on 23 October 1841, while an independent parish was created in 1870. J. C. Bishop supplied an organ in 1845. Among the memorials is a Gothic tribute to William Hutton, made in 1848 and incorporating his likeness by sculptor Peter Hollins. Further repair and renewal took place in 2010 under St Margaret’s Community Trust, assisted by the Revd Simon Cartwright.
