About St George Edgbaston
St George Edgbaston is an active Church of England parish church on Westbourne Crescent in Edgbaston, Birmingham, West Midlands. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building, a status granted in January 1970.
Built between 1836 and 1838, it initially served as a chapel connected with St Bartholomew’s in Edgbaston. Joseph John Scoles designed the original nave, aisles and galleries. Charles Edge added a chancel in 1856, before J. A. Chatwin substantially reshaped the building in 1884–85 with a taller, broader nave, a new chancel and a southern aisle. Interior restoration followed in 1899 under Arthur Edwards. Notable features include carved timber furnishings by Bridgeman of Lichfield and Victorian glass by several makers. The Lady Chapel contains a Jesse Tree window created by Charles Eamer Kempe.
