About St Andrew’s Church, Great Finborough
St Andrew’s Church, Great Finborough is a Church of England church in the village of Great Finborough, near Stowmarket in Suffolk. It is protected as a Grade II listed building and occupies a site used for Christian worship for more than a millennium.
The present church is largely Victorian and was designed by Richard Phipson, although its Tudor porch is the sole surviving part of the earlier structure. A church here was documented alongside Finborough Hall in the Domesday survey of 1086, while registers recording baptisms, marriages and burials began in 1558. The prominent spire rises to almost 300 feet. A low wall was added around the churchyard in 1883 at a cost of £5. The roof later suffered damage from both lightning and severe gales, with repairs following the storm damage costing £10,000.
