About All Saints Church, Newton Green
All Saints Church, Newton Green is a Church of England place of worship at Newton Green in Edwardstone, Suffolk, roughly two miles from Sudbury. This Grade II* listed church is now divided: services continue in the chancel, while the main body, porch and western tower are maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The present structure largely results from fourteenth-century rebuilding of a Norman predecessor. Flint walls are complemented by dressed stone and occasional brick, while the fifteenth-century south porch has a wooden frame and underwent repairs in 1975. A surviving Norman entrance, thought to date from the 1130s or 1140s, features zigzag ornament and carved capitals. The interior contains medieval paintings illustrating the Incarnation, a pulpit with an hourglass form, remnants of historic coloured glass and a fifteenth-century eight-sided font. Memorials include a woman’s sculpted figure from about 1300 and Margaret Boteler’s richly detailed monument, made after her death in 1410.
