About St Nicholas
St Nicholas is a Church of England parish church in Codsall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Completed in 1848, it remains an active place of worship and is protected at Grade II* for its architectural and historic importance.
The oldest surviving feature is its Norman doorway, while the western tower dates to the fourteenth century. Most of the present building was constructed from 1846 to 1848 to designs by Edward Banks. Its plan includes an aisled nave of five bays, a porch on the south side and a vestry to the north. The church also has a pipe organ made by Wolverhampton organ builder Reginald Fisk and rebuilt by Hawkins in 1974. Memorials include those to Walter Wrottesley and the artists and sculptors Sir Charles Wheeler and Muriel, Lady Wheeler.
