St Chad is an active Church of England parish church in the Stowe area of northern Lichfield, Staffordshire. It stands on St Chad’s Road near Stowe Pool and is protected as a Grade II* building. The churchyard is traditionally associated with the hermitage and spring used by Chad before he became bishop in 669.
A stone church replaced an earlier Anglo-Saxon monastery during the 12th century. Surviving medieval work includes rounded Norman arches, an Early English south arcade with octagonal columns, pointed windows and the chancel. The western bell tower and traceried east window were added in the 14th century, along with the font that remains in use. Damage during the Civil War led to roof rebuilding and the addition of a red-brick clerestory. Victorian work included reconstruction of the north aisle, restoration of the chancel, and the addition of a vestry and south porch. Four bells hang in the tower, three dating from the 17th century.
